Bunbury 15th December 2012

Howdy all, long time no blog. Well a great night was had by most in Bunbury last night, racing was hard and intense, some fast pace, some heartbreaking DNFs, and a couple of small crashes. First and foremost 2 of the clubs shed racers made it back on the track, Paul Miller and Peter Wodj, wonder when Mary will come out of the shed to complete the BAND of oldies? The track was nice, some say rough but it was ok for me. The drag racer Ronnie Wilson continues to improve, the young guns are learning their craft, and as usual there has to be a dickhead in the house. Martin would have had a hernia if he saw some of the crap that we saw/encountered on the track. My mission for the night was to get past Wodj, but I met with a suspension failure early in the feature, which saw me park the 77 in the mid field. Trophys for the mini season were presented to Ronnie Wilson, division 1, and Peter MacNamara, division 2. The real season kicks off from the muster, looking forward to competing in Gero, those southeners are one up and us northeners need to take the win again at the Old boys. Catch you Crabby.

2011/2012 AGM & Windup

Limited Sprintcar Association of WA AGM & Windup was been run & done.
Yesterday Saturday 26th May 2012 was the date for the occasion.
Well there was a great turnout to the AGM in Forrestfield. Much appreciated to all that made the time to come & thanks to all of you that put in your apologies.
Now feathers were ruffled, discussions were endless but the job was eventually done. With all but a few motions being addressed (this being as they were squashed in prior motions) & decided upon.
There was a big change made in the committee members for the 2012/2013 season.
Martin Laughton once again was a unanimous vote for Club President.
Shane Webster happily handed over the Vice President’s role to Chris Dicker.
Michelle Christensen’s position of Secretary was up for the taking with not a hand in sight to take over the spot so we moved on with hope that it would be filled soon.
Lilian Moreton who has been with the club for a lot of years decided it was time to hand over the reins of Treasurer – Debbie Wilson & Vanessa Armstrong put their hands up to do the job. After a little discussion & deliberation it was decided that Vanessa Armstrong was to become the new Treasurer with Debbie Wilson upping the stakes & taking on the new role of Secretary.
Committee Members have expanded to 4 with Mike Armstrong, Jason Craig, Mick Doble & Sue Wojtanowski taking up the challenge.
Technical Officer once again was taken by Gavin Davis.
Chief Stewards are the same with Peter Moreton & Martin Laughton staying put.
Handicapper is once again done by Peter Moreton.
Driver’s Reps are Mike Armstrong, Jason Craig & Mick Doble.
And a new role of Sponsors Committee has been made up of Martin Laughton, Steve Crabbe & Chris Dicker.
Apologies if I have missed anyone out. Congratulations to everyone on your new roles & we wish Lilian & Michelle all the best & THANKYOU for all your endless help & commitment to the club over the years.
A well earned beverage was had by everyone at the end of it with the gardens at the Rose & Crown being a popular choice. Relaxed discussions of Sprintcars & racing were had with the World of Outlaws in the US being a hot topic as well.
The Windup itself was a fantastic night. This as you all know was held at the Rose & Crown in Guildford. The room was setup nice, the food was fantastic & the atmosphere was alive all night. A big thanks to Shane Webster & his brother Matt for having a slide show of cars, crew, thrills & spills throughout the season on display for all to enjoy. Thanks to Stanley Trescuri, Peter French & Richard Hathaway for suppling these for use. Stanley Trescuri was still in photographer mode and was taking some great shots of the night for all to enjoy.
Trophy Time & all was hush.
1st on the agenda was handing out the replicas for the 2010/2011 winners. Club Champion – Annette Crabbe, Feature Race Wins – Chris Ackland, Rookie of the Year – Annette Crabbe, Most Improved – Shane Maskell & Club Person – Sue Wojtanowski.
Now for the 2011/2012 Trophy Winners 7 they are
“Overall on Points” for the season – 1st Aldo De Paoli, 2nd Gavin Davis & 3rd Todd Davis.
“Club Champion” went to Aldo De Paoli.
John Green Fabrications – “Most Feature Race Wins” went to Todd Davis.
John Hatton Memorial – “Rookie of the Year” went to Aldo De Paoli.
Dave Henkey Memorial – “Most Improved” went to Ron Wilson.
And a worthy winner of the Club Person went to Lilian Moreton.
Congratulations to you all on a job well done. Aldo De Paoli had a whopper of a year & went home with a car full of trophy’s.
A BIG THANKS to this year’s committee members for putting on another great night. No doubt we are all itching for the next season to begin. All the best with car & engine rebuilds & we look forward to catching up with you all again on the track.

The build begins.

Well the rebuild of Annette's car has begun, for those that do not know the old car was junked at Krikke Boys this year when Annette chose the wall over hitting Gavin's car, the chassis had about 20 bends in it and while like all things it could have been repaired, it was old and fatigued so to the scrap bin it went.

We picked up a good deal from Hainsy on one of his JJ special Maxims and GKR got it across to WA for us.
These cars are unique in that they have similar mods to a Kinser Maxim but some subtle differences as well, this has me inspired to get it together so I can have a run, because we all know Maxim's are the "Old Mans Car", a lounge chair on wheels they tell me, and my first car was like that, very easy to drive and not so critical on the set up, as opposed to my J & J which you have to be on all the time or it will dump you quick as.
So we have had a dummy set up to see the fit in the car, man JJ is a small dude, we fit but to make it comfy we will get Murph the magician to push the A frame back and lift the seat height by 30mm.
So I have spent about 6 hours since Friday removing the vinyl wrap frrom the panels, never never try removing wrap from aluminium panels, what a chore, but persist we did and now we are done.
The aluminium is off to get repaired and as the fibreglass is so thin we will get the fibreglass panels reinforced to withstand the abuse Annette seems to give her cars.
Once the chassis is modified the frame and panels will go to Transcoat who do a great job of powdercoating.
So for me, I guess I can get car 56 ready for the sponsors day, looking forward to seeing just how fast this beast is.
I will start posting photos of the mission and keep you all up to date with the happenings in the cave, need something to stop the off season boredom.

Bunbury wrap up 28-04-2012

Hi all,

Well Bunbury was not rained out there were only a few showers.
The Limited Club had 7 cars present, not bad considering the big event at Pithara.
We ran three heats and the feature although the feature was shortened due to a previous rain shower making the track slippery.
On hand to race were Todd "The Tearaway" Davis, Gavin "Mr Money Meet Winner" Davis, Aldo "The Apprentice" DeApaoli, Ron "The Drag Racer" Wilson, Jason "Steel Chassis" Craig, Chris "I am only allowed to race 4 meets don't tell my wife this is number 12" Dicker and Steve "Butter wouldnt melt in my mouth" Crabbe.
Heats were a mish mash of positions with Lillian challenging us by moving each of us around to keep the pressure on to pass.
So from my poor memory here is what I think happened.
Heat 1 was won by the fabulous driver of car 77 who pulled the the first of the two best starts of the night, and he is modest as well, off the start from 4 diving between the front row cars and dragging "The Drag Racer" down the back straight getting into three first and pulled away, what a great start to the night.
Heat two was won by Chris Dicker, it was a slick track and the tractor motor loved it, the pace was not slow either, there were 4 of us going hell for leather but the tractor was not letting anyone by.
Heat 3 was another big event, Todd cleaned it up after The Drag Racer had it sewn up only to spin, the ensuing restart saw Gavin try a big move under Todd going into one, he just couldn't make it stick though, Aldo was unlucky, twice he got past me only to have the ambers come on and relegate him back.
So into the feature we went, Jason Craig off pole, Chris Dicker off two, Ron Wilson off three, Steve Crabbe off four, Aldo off five and Todd off six.
I knew Todd and Aldo would be coming quick so it was a close the eyes and go around the outside start, coming off 4 the green lights came on, plan A went into effect foot down and up high I went and when I opened my eyes we were leading going into turn one, not sure who was next but I would guess Todd came with me, we were going quite hard and I was just really starting to get harder on the gas when a minor mishap saw my left front wheel go past me, with plenty of suction on the seat we steered the 77 machine onto the infield to watch the rest of the feature, Todd drove a faultless race from there with Aldo steering his machine into second, Chris Dicker ran third in what was his best drive to date, Ron and Jason finished in that order.
So folks that was the night that was, a great night finished with some great prizes some cold beers and a great bbq on team Davis.

Special thanks to Mandurah Bolt Supplies, for all the great prizes and Martin for organising the event.

Remember the AGM is coming up, keep your ears tuned for the date.

Saturday at the races supporting the monster trucks.

Hi all,

Apparently while I was away some of the club members turned up to support the Monster Truck show.
There was Todd Davis, Aldo De Apaoli, Chris Dicker, Shane Maskel, Ron Wilson and Michael Andrews.

Not entirley sure of the results but Shane Maskel had a huge hit on the wall and destroyed his car totally.
Gavin tells me Chris Dicker put in a great drive and Ron Wilson in the new car was a drag racer on the straights, wheels standing high and covering the straights in no time at all.

I must say this years new drivers are standout performers, they are quick and straight.
Not sure of the current points but I would say for the second year in a row a rookie will take out club champion, hard to see anyone hauling Aldo in from here.
This Saturday sees the last club run for the season, such a pity it clashes with the Watsons all in Sprintcar Express, I for one think the Watsons Sprintcar Express meeting could become WA's best sprintcar meeting if it continues to grow, Arguably the Boys Race is the best, but for fun you just have to be at Pithara this weekend.

Geraldton weekend

Hi all,

Long time no blog, but we are coming back.

Well off to Gero we went on a raid to plunder the prizes donated by Super Cheap, we were intent on liberating the bounty for the Southeners.
Led by Mr I always win in Gero and supported by Aldo De Apaoli, Steve Crabbe, Glen Oliver and Ron Wilson.
Time trials were run and us Southeners were looking the goods, Aldo first and Gavin second.
My time came and with much embarrasment I went around at just above idle, my outside front axle held together with 3 turns of 8mm rope, we got a time though so we did not have to run from the rear.
Gavin ran into trouble in heat 1 running into a spun car dropping his driveline out, he missed his heat 2 as well.
Aldo was moving forward each heat but in heat 4 night one he had a mishap with Cale Sotiroff and Ron Wilson, photos of the final resting place of the cars are on the ltd face book page.
Glen's night was over early as well, tagging a spun car and bending the axle on the 45 car.
My night was somewhat better with 3 heat wins and a second, Andrew Pedlar passing me on the 3rd lap after the restart, during the 20 minutes it took to get Cales car off the bank I was hypnotised by water dripping from my wing, I missed all my marks for the rest of that heat.
Going into night 2 Nathan Chant was leading on 116 points and doing all he needed to take pole.
My night 2 was better than night 1 with 2 easy heat wins, the car was on rails, Ed and Mick had done an excellent job and I was not letting the team down.
After each heat I watched the next heat run, I could not believe the speed of our division, racing was intense and faster than I had seen at Geraldton before, it was a credit to all the Ltd drivers and each one should stand proud of the show they put on.

The Geraldton Club also should be proud of the meeting they organised, the only complaint being there was no Corona in the bar.
Now a certain gentleman and I have crossed swords with on the electronic media many times a couple of years ago, but he should be praised for the track preparation, it was a great track to race on, so thanks, OTL/Skeeta/Peter McNamara or any other alias you travel under, we all the drivers thank you for the work you did.
So to the feature we had Nathan off pole and myself outside, first start Martin said I jumped and pulled us up, second start we were off and around the outside I went only to have Nathan drive back under coming off 2, I chased hard for several laps before drifting up in 3 and 4 and seeing Cale and Andrew Pedlar come by, 2 laps later and under the pair I went, only to have the front brake caliper jam and bend the disc in a spectacular explosion of steel bits, this turned me hard left and the right rear tagged the wall, this filled the rim with mud and a vibration had me thinking we had torn the drive out so I rolled infield to watch the race.
Again it was stunning to watch the speed of the cars, Nathan drove a mistake free race and had a well deserved win ahead of Cale and Mick McGuiness and Andrew Pedlar, Aldo was 8th and Gavin 9th.
So the Northerners got to keep the booty, and us Southeners came away with the minors, but even the minors were great prizes.

Crabby.

Title Wrap Up

Well not that Literally the dust has settled here are some more details from the title.

Quite a disappointing turn out but we all know that things happen and we all can't race all the time but the drivers that were there put on a good nights racing.

The night consisted of time trials, three rounds of 8 pal heats and a 25 lap feature.

Time trials went to Chris Ackland followed by Mike Armstrong and Todd Davis.

The first round of heats went to Mike Armstrong and Shane Maskell but not till Justin Bell had a wild ride after riding Chris Dickers right rear and hitting the turn one wall very hard. I would expect that will be the last time we see that car as I've never seen a car damaged that bad. Fortunately Justin was not hurt.

The second round of heats went to Todd Davis and Shane Maskell again but not until i took a little excursion to check out the spot where Justin hit the wall. Not much damage luckily and i was able to finish.

The last round of heats was a repeat of the second with Todd and Shane taking them out again.
By this stage the track was getting a but dusty and starting to slick off.

After the heats points were Todd,Chris Ackland,Mike, Shane,Gavin,Aldo,Grant Chisolm,Chris Dicker and Ron Wilson.

Despite the best efforts of the Narrogin track staff the track was getting very slick thru turn three and four and extremely dusty. The feature was quite an eventful race with a few stoppages including Chris Ackland who misjudged the location of the front straight wall in the dust which ended his title defense. Others that didn't finish were Mike Armstrong and Aldo.
So the final order was Todd Davis,Gavin Davis,Shane Maskell,Tony Billman,Grant Chisolm,Ron Wilson and Chris Dicker.

Congratulations to Todd he drove the best in the conditions and deserved to win he was hard to beat all night.

See you all at Bunbury and don't forget to get your nominations in for the Wayne Armstrong Cup.

SJ Crushing racing

Hi all just a quick update on blog.
Heat 2 motor was ok, just took it easy for a while until I thought Gavin was going to lap me, then I got on the gas and passed Ron and drove away from Gavin, so really where Shane said we slowed we actually went faster, which was still slower than Chris and Todd, Gavin was trying to pass for position not to lap me, just shows how asleep I was.

Bunbury 11-2-12

What a great night of sprintcar racing at Bunbury last night. All the limited drivers should be very proud!

Heat 1 saw Gav Davis start from pole and wasnt matched for the entire race. Chris Ackland started from near last and ended up 3rd. Final placings were Gav 1st, Cory Gilpin (running 360 engine) 2nd, Aldo 3rd, Chris 4th. Glen Oliver was back in the drivers seat, but once again found his diff hanging out by the end of the heat, so that ended his night. Crabbe had some engine dramas and we all had fingers crossed he hadnt blown another one. Team Crabbe worked hard to find the problem to no avail, so sent him out for heat 2 to see what would happen.

Heat 2 - Todd Davies started off pole, Chris Ackland pulled out on lap 1 with rear end dramas, Ron Wilson managed to hold off Crabbe for a good few laps and Aldo was once again driving very well. Crabbe's engine held up, but again started to fail towards the end of the heat. At least he didnt blow it!

The feature was held over 20 laps with Higgins and Crabbe of the first row, Gav and Aldo off row 2 and Todd in p5.

Gav jumped straigt into P1 within the first lap and Todd set about chasing him down with Aldo settling him behind. Ron Wilson pulled in after a few laps with dramas. Todd managed to get past Gav and then Aldo soon passed him as well, not sure if Gav had car trouble or is just getting old!

With 2 laps to go, Todd was running the low line, Aldo stuck to his guns and held the high line, the move paid off which saw Aldo take out his first ever win - well done!

The A main of the WSS was qute eventful, with Brooke Tatnell being run over by the push car prior to start of the race, Max Dumsney was disqualified. Ryan Farrell lead from start to finish.

We all gathered after that for presentation, big thanks to Chris from Manadurah Bolts for a few prizes, SJC Crushing for donating some tyres Delkara Haulage for some vouchers and a few others, apols if I've missed people - I'm getting old too!. Gav and Crabbe took home new front wings, Todd scored a compressor and Aldo walked away with a 42" plasma courtesy 88degress.

Peter will send thru the official placings shortly, so I'll post those when they come thru.

Next meeting is the state title in Narrogin on the 25th, then back to Bunbury for the Krikke Boys on March 3-4, Moora on the 10th then down to Margaret River on the 17th for the Armstrong Memorial, then back to Kwinana on the 24th. Very busy March - bring it on!!

The Muster

Well we definitely had the best turnout for the season so far with 17 limiteds nominated for the muster.

There was a massive crowd on hand and they weren't disappointed with the racing.

The first head was a very quick race and unfortunately a little too fast off the start for Sarah Zemunik as she was relegated two positions for jumping the start. So this handed the win to Todd Davis followed by Aaron Ishiguchi and then Sarah.

Heat two was a good one as well with the Gero guys showing us why they had come down with Robbie Stephens taking the win from Mick Doble and Gavin Davis.

Heat three was a bit scrappy with Todd Davis and Mick Doble both spinning on the back straight early. Race was eventually won by myself followed by Paul Peet and Aldo DePaoli. A great drive from Paul his first time in the car for a few years.

The feature was next and front 3 rows were Robbie and Sarah, myself and Todd and Mick and Gavin behind us. It was a good race with both the top and bottom of the track working well.Sarah was on the pace early and we were all trying to keep up. the minor positions were changing rapidly as everyone was having a good crack.
Unfortunately for Mick he also had a massive dump in turn one and although Mick was OK the same can't be said for his car it was a mess.
The race resumed and it was a fight between 3 with Sarah.Todd and myself running out in front of the field it was a good race and we finished in that order.

It was a great night of racing and a very good example of the show that the limiteds can put on if we get the numbers.

Fast Friday

Firstly apologies for the lack of posts just been too busy.

Well 6 limiteds turned up to race on the 16th Dec for the last fast Friday and we were treated to a really good track again.
There were also 7 360's and we ran together with them all night.

First heat seen myself and Chris Dicker off the front with the 360's one corner behind us. We finished in the order of myself,Trent Pigdon(360) and then Chris Dicker.

The second heat was won by Ryan Farrell in a 360 followed by Shane Maskell and myself in third.

Feature race front row was myself and Shane Maskell. Shane spun in turn 1 early and was collected by Jake Beard Miller and both were out for the rest of the race. We held off the field for the next 6-8 laps before I was passed again by Ryan. I set off after him only to come into contact with Bryan Hall in turn one and has a massive dump. You all have probably seen the pictures by now. Car was not damaged too bad and I had a good headache. 360's finished in the top 3 positions and the first limited home was Chris Dicker with his first win of the season.

Overall points for the night went to Chris Dicker followed by myself and Shane Maskell.
Well done Chris on your first win.
