Well it was off to Geraldton
on the 24th January for the annual
John Stephens Memorial Event over 30 laps. This is one of the biggest
events on the Limited Sprintcars Calendar and a great night was had by all
The event was run over six heats
and a final of 30 laps
The first heat saw Geoff Drew
and Wayne Harrington off the front row. Geoff took off and was never headed and
took the win from Benny Migro second and Andrew Pedlar coming from near the rear
to take third
Next Heat saw Tahni Doble and
Greg Clarke off the front. Both front runners were overrun by Anthony Gaudio closely
followed by Nathan Chant. Anthony First, Nathan second and Robert Garraway third
Next heat saw Nathan Chant
and Robbie Stephens off the front. This was a great race. Nathan took the win, Mick
McInnis from the rear second and Robert Garraway third
Second last heat saw Daniel
Giles and Tahni Doble off the front row. Half way thru this race we saw
Anthony making a move down low but just clipped a car and rolled. The finishing
order was Mick Mcinnes first, Robert Garraway second and Geoff Drew coming from
the rear to finish third
Last heat saw Mick Burnet and
Wayne Harrington off the front. This was also was a great race which saw Robbie
Stephens first, Nathan Chant second and Andrew Pedler third
The feature saw Nathan Chant off the front with Geoff Drew. The race was a tussle with Nathan leading and Geoff Drew closely following then Anthony spun putting him to the rear. After a few more laps Geoff lost it too and had to go to the rear of the field. The track had got very slick and we had some more restarts, but at the end it was Andrew Pedlar first and Robbie Stephens second with Robert Garraway third. It was bad luck for Mick McInnis as he was making ground and lost a wheel that put an end to his race. Ben Migro was holding his own and doing well but was caught up in and incident and damaged his car that put him out of contention.
Thanks to all drivers for making this event another great night to remember
